A person who contaminated treats with tranquilliser and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two young males both nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and a grown-up became sick at the location in July.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.

However, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was concerning a young boy.

The accused was remanded in custody prior to a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.

The man conducted a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor stated, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "for many years", and children had previously become sick the following morning.

She explained Ruben had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had concerns in July 2025.

The prosecutor continued: "This year his family member had concerns about what was going on, justifiably.

"They decided to examine in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor explained objects including infant oil, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his family member contacted the police about his suspicions.

She explained the man went on to conduct the "sweet game" with six youngsters that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that time," she stated further.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining law enforcement's management of the situation.

Mrs Prior explained the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the stepson notified the police again.

She said the defendant then engaged in the "sweet game" in a room of five children.
